Jenny Smith works in the medium of drawing, painting, print, artists' books and video. She is investigating into the relationship between process and concept within the context of memory and place with particular reference to drawing and Zen Philosophy.

Jenny’s current research investigates ways that laser cutting can interpret hand drawn and painted marks within a fine art context, with particular reference to the accidental interruptions that occur within controlled processes.

Jenny lives and works in Edinburgh. She gained a first class B.A.(hons) in Drawing and Painting from DJCA, Dundee and an MA in Multi Disciplinary Print from UWE, Bristol.

Jenny exhibits nationally and internationally and has won numerous awards. This year, her laser cut work has been exhibited in a solo exhibition Incise, at Edinburgh Printmakers, at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, the Royal Scottish Academy Spring Open and the Royal West of England Academy.

She is currently showing in the Jerwood Drawing Prize Exhibition and is a recipient of a Scottish Arts Council Creative and Professional Development Award. Jenny has work held in public and private collections including recent acquisitions by The Tate and National Galleries of Scotland.
