RESURFACED: An exploration of 'design for upcycling' through laser finishing for textiles

Kate Goldsworthy is Course Coordinator, MA Textile Futures at Central Saint Martins. Kate is a textile designer and researcher in the area of new finishing technologies, materials and design for recycling.

Her work has been exhibited internationally and she is currently completing her doctoral studies as part of the AHRC funded project 'Ever & Again; rethinking recycled textiles' based at Chelsea College of Art & Design.

Her PhD project explores new finishing technologies for recycled polyester and considers the ‘borrowed’ nature of this material, placing the designer at the centre of a process of multidisciplinary practice.

By designing for life-cycle at the outset it asks, ‘how can laser technology be applied to innovate surface finishing techniques for recyclable, synthetic textiles?’
