Bridging the Gap

Sarah O’Hana was trained at Loughborough University School of Art and Design where she received a BA(Hons) 1st in Jewellery and Silversmithing in 1982. During her years of self-employment in the field she developed a range of jewellery in titanium and silver that was selected by the Design Council and supplied various shops and galleries across the UK.

For the last 15 years she has been a lecturer in design and visual arts and has overseen the integration of laser technology into jewellery and applied art courses in Manchester. In order to develop an in depth understanding of laser technology for the benefit of art and design she has carried out the PhD research project 'Laser processing for contemporary jewellery: a bridge between cultures' at The University of Manchester School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering.

Her interest lies in collaborative work between artists and the sciences with the aim to further the public understanding of both these cultures.
