John Angus

Laser Facilitation in the Context of Hybride Technology

John is the Director of Textiles Studies at the University of Derby. His research interests encompass Innovative technical textile constructions and composites.

He was a consultant to Mallory Replicas Project, a two-year project to create replicas of George Mallory's climbing gear - worn on his ill-fated 1924 Everest expedition where expert teams from four UK universities and other knitwear specialists collaborated to discover what we can learn from early clothing produced for extreme conditions. The Universities of Lancaster, Southampton, Leeds and Derby combined their expertise to investigate.

His professional activities and interests include International fashion and textile design, advanced digital design and manufacturing processes (especially knitwear and laser applications). And the deployment of digital media in design curriculum.

Most recently John was involved in the Digital realisation of casting formliners for lace embellished concrete fascia on the new Centre for Contemporary Arts in Nottingham - in collaboration with Caruso St John Architects, Reckli Gmbh. and Trent Concrete Ltd.
